Lorente Las plantas se empinan alargando embelesadas sus hojas semidormidas.  Con cierta indiferencia miran caer la lluvia de un mundo exterior que no les alcanza.  No se sienten solas, hoy les guardo compañía aquí en este ambiente de paz que hemos creado, en el letargo de una primavera más que añorada por las apresuradas aves viajeras.  La casa huele a puro coffee Americano bautizado con crema de avellanas.  Me paseo con mi taza preferida cerca de los retratos familiares. ¿Por qué no nacen ya muchas personas como ellos?  Esos seres antediluvianos que  nos inyectaron su natural disposición, el calor de sus almas ingenuas, pertenecen a otra casta.  Ellos no pudieran reconocer a algunos de los nuevos seres-retoños, no comprenderían su indiferencia hacia lo realmente valioso, su impaciencia, y su ferocidad por lo insignificante.  Gracias al espíritu atrapado en estas fotos, aprendí a distinguir lo importante...

Por Aymara Lorente Hace unos días The New York Times publicó un artículo de Kirk Johnson titulado Bookstores In Seattle Soar, And Embrace Old Nemesis.  Se trataba de la extraordinaria y alentadora tendencia que está ocurriendo allí con relación a una nueva inyección de fuerza que se comienza a observar con respecto a la venta de libros, especialmente en pequeñas librerías.  Ya esto de por si hacía el comentario sumamente atractivo.  Sin embargo me habían recomendado que lo leyera más bien por el hecho de que en ese trabajo se mencionaba a una persona en particular de la cual yo tenía referencias anteriores. Como ya sabemos, todo en este mundo está conectado, y ningún hombre o cosa es una isla desvinculada, mucho menos en este, nuestro tiempo, (aunque una ínsula en particular me viene ahora a la mente). Sadly, the weakness of our current president and the European Union has made Putin believe he's the czar of the world. by Aymara Lorente The way I see it, it does not work at all, mostly because many of the individuals who, consciously or not, follow that practice are seeking instant gratification. They do not believe in the process of getting somewhere making sacrifices, being patient, following rewarding logical steps.  I have seen the results of that selfish, rude, and immature rush many times.   Some people always find themselves choosing the easy, unscrupulous way of getting what they want no matter what.   When you go through life moving pieces indiscriminately, swimming against the flow all the time to get your way, you will feel empty and unsatisfied most of the time. These individuals frequently get the opposite of what they were looking for.  It is the way this world works because God always lets us know that, sooner or later, there are consequences to everything we do.   However, the unselfish and natural acts you perform, without even thinking, will...

By Aymara Lorente            To Pedro, on his birthday, with love and admiration,  and to Mr. Lehrman, with deep gratitude. Lewis E. Lehrman had no idea Pedro’s birthday was coming up.  What he certainly knows about is his love for books.  People at work see him with one of those in his hands almost every day.  Pedro reads every chance he gets.  He loves good literature, and those who appreciate it too, commend him for that, Mr. Lehrman among them.  He commented to Pedro the other day about his admiration for his commitment to reading and his love for literature.  And he asked if he could give him some books about American history.  Of course, Pedro said yes.  He also offered to rebind the old dictionary he always has on hand.  Pedro was touched by those gestures, especially coming from a person he respects so much.
